Great things that will happen this year! My name is Mrs. Brown and I am excited to be teaming with Ms. Brower. I have been teaching and working with youth since I was a teenager, starting as a Sunday school teacher and later, after graduating with my education degree, as a private and public school teacher.
I believe all children can be successful learners with the right tools. I am excited to be a new member of the GSOTA family.
On the weekends and in my free time you can find me at the beach, crafting or exploring something new.

Ms. Brower

Math & Science

I grew up in New York and recently moved to Florida to be closer to family. I got my bachelors degree at Penn State. I discovered my passion for teaching and working with children while working at a daycare where I eventually became a lead teacher for younger age groups. I obtained my Masters in Childhood Education at Long Island University in New York. I started out teaching Pre-K then moved up to elementary level teaching in New York.
I chose to teach because I think a teacher can have the power to create a wonderful learning experience for students. I believe in instilling a growth mindset and helping students believe in themselves. As a teacher I always want to learn and grow while helping my students do the same.
Outside of school I love to read, listen to music, go to the beach, spend time with family and friends. I love animals and playing with my three dogs.

Ms. DeArellano

ELA & Social Studies

I was born in Long Island, NY, and relocated to South Florida over 20 years ago. I obtained my bachelor's in Psychology from Barry University and have worked in schools supporting the educational environment, particularly special needs students, for many years. My goal is to provide an exceptional education to children with various hands-on learning methods.
When not in the classroom, I enjoy going to the beach and volunteering in my spare time. I am excited to be a new addition to the GSOTA family and can't wait to see what our team accomplishes for the 2022 school year.

Mrs. Joyce

Math & Science

This is my 7th year teaching upper elementary math. I taught in Boynton Beach for 2 years prior to moving to Massachusetts and teaching at a charter school for 4 years! I graduated with my undergraduate degree in Elementary Education from Florida Atlantic University! I then attended the University of Florida where I got my masters degree in educational technology.
I strongly believe that students learn best when they collaborate together and work with one another. Students should see each other as useful resources. Learning is ongoing, and we all have different strengths. By explaining how students got their answer and how they know their answer is correct, they are deepening their understanding and helping others understand their way of thinking at the same time.
I also love incorporating technology into lessons, when appropriate. Sometimes paper and hand-on experiences are better, but technology can enhance the lesson by giving immediate feedback, personalize the learning experience, and increase engagement.
Our students come in each day with a positive attitude and eager to learn! I am so excited to see what the school year holds!
