Middle School Teachers

Jennifer Chroniak - Technology Arts, Digital Design
Originally from Indianapolis, Mrs. Chroniak has lived in Florida for 5 years. She has taught for many years, in a variety of grade levels and subjects. She has an education degree, art degree and worked on a masters in educational technology. Passionate about preparing students for "the real world", Mrs. Chroniak truly has her dream job in teaching your children technology. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her 2 boys and husband watching "The Flash", playing Mario or going to the beach.

John Chroniak - Science, Math, Maker

After Working the environmental industry for 20 years, Mr. Chroniak shifted his focus to education. In his first year of teaching he had taking the full dive into education teaching both science and math. With a degree in environmental science, he enjoys enlightening the students on applying math and science to modern day environmental issues. He is very excited to be part of the SOTA team and is ecstatic to be leading the Inventors Club. Mr. Chroniak enjoys tech projects, playing video games with the family and card games in his spare time.

Angel Echeverria - PE
Coach Angel loves coaching PE, working with middle school students and being a part of GSOTA's aftercare team. She is a huge University of South Florida fan and believes weekends are for cheering on the Chicago Bulls, Indianapolis Colts, New York Mets, Miami Heat and Florida Panthers!

Jennifer Griffin - Social Studies 
Jennifer Griffin is excited to be part of the GSOTA Team. Mrs. Griffin has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art History and is a Florida Certified Teacher in both Elementary Education and Art. She began her teaching career as a nursery school teacher when her own daughter first started school in 2003. Five years later, she transitioned to elementary school. She taught both kindergarten and second grade. A few years later, she had the opportunity to switch fields and became the art teacher for grades kindergarten through eighth grade. In addition to these experiences, Mrs. Griffin has also managed a children's art studio, taught VPK, and has worked as a nanny. Teaching children has been a life long passion and she is looking forward to infusing her classroom with creativity, joy and enthusiasm.

Dr. Daniel Ketcher - Social Studies
Dr. Ketcher moved to Florida last year and is excited to work with young people in Social Studies education. He majored in International Relations, German and European Studies at the University of Arkansas. His fascination with the humanities led him to take courses ranging from Microeconomic Theory, to the Intellectual History of Europe, and theories of International Relations. He also studied at Karl Franzens University in Graz, Austria. After completing his B.A., Dr. Ketcher attended Saint Meinrad and completed his M.A. in Philosophical Studies with a focus on the roots of Roman Catholic theology. He was then accepted to the University of Arkansas School of Law, a top tier public law school. While there, he enjoyed courses such as American Legal History, Intl Criminal Law, World Legal History, and Constitutional Law. He completed his Juris Doctorate in May 2012. In his free time Dr. Ketcher enjoys playing the cello, singing, reading about national and world affairs, and long-distance running.

Jennifer O'Brien - Language Arts, Media Studies
Jenn O'Brien is also a Maryland native, coming from the quaint little town of Berlin. She is 2004 graduate of Salisbury University where she earned dual degrees in Psychology and Communications Arts/Journalism. After graduating, she moved to the Washington, DC Metro Area where she worked for the University System of Maryland as well as for a large tech company. In 2011, she completed her M.S. in Media Psychology from Walden University. In 2013, she relocated from the DC area to Florida with her family. Mrs. O'Brien is excited to continue her second year teaching Middle School ELA and Media Studies at GSOTA. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, listening to The Beatles and traveling.

Emily Ocampo - PE
Mrs. Emilia (Emily) Ocampo is originally from Ontario, Canada. She has been teaching in Florida since 2003 after graduating from FIU. She moved to Miami to pursue her education after being recruited on a full soccer scholarship. Mrs. Ocampo achieved many goals as a student athlete prior to and during her collegiate career. She enjoys being a role model and is committed to providing a new outlook on physical education to her students at GSOTA. She leads by example and continues to live an active lifestyle by playing in 3 different soccer leagues that meet weekly. She is also a mother of 3 young children and lives in Palm Beach Gardens. Mrs. Ocampo looks forward to bringing her experience to this school and collaborating with her colleagues in an effort to make fitness and health an important part of students' lives. Furthermore, she will emphasize on team sports knowing that a person's interpersonal skills, self awareness, and confidence are also very important to the development of a successful person.

Stacie Panton - Math, Study Skills
Stacie Panton has lived in Palm Beach County for 18 years. Stacie is a graduate of Florida Atlantic University where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Anthropology and minor in Biology. She began her career as a middle school math and science teacher in 2004. For the past four years, Stacie has worked as an educational consultant. Her most recent project was the development of a 21st Century Learning Center in Belle Glade, Florida. In her spare time, Stacie enjoys going to the beach, fishing, swimming and travelling with her family.

Lisa Rice - Intensive Reading
Mrs. Rice is originally from Michigan. She has a Bachelor's in Elementary Ed/Early Childhood from Western Michigan University and a Master's in Reading Education K0-12 from Barry University. She has over 10 years of teaching experience. She taught middle school English and trained teachers for over 2 years as a Peace Corps Volunteer in the Republic of Kiribati. She spent three years in Japan teaching English to children and adults. She is certified as an ESE teacher and has taught PreK-5th grade students of varying exceptionalities. Mrs. Rice is looking forward to providing a positive learning environment which fosters growth and a sense of community among SOTA learners. She lives in Boynton Beach with her husband and their black lab.

Erin Ryan - Science, Engineering
Erin Ryan recently moved to Florida from her hometown in Ashton, Maryland. She graduated from Towson University in 2012 with a B.S. in Environmental Studies, a track in education, and a minor in Biology. Ms. Ryan spent a summer teaching in the Arctic Circle of Alaska, a semester teaching Marine Science in the Florida Keys, and the last year as a Science teacher at a private school in Maryland. In her free time she enjoys water sports, snorkeling, and scuba diving South Florida. Ms. Ryan is excited to begin the new school year and eager to introduce more outdoor education experiences to the science curriculum.

Lauren West - Language Arts
Miss West recently moved to Florida from her hometown of Wayne, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Philadelphia. She graduated from Kutztown University in 2009 with a B.S. in Elementary Education and a minor in Psychology. In 2010 she began teaching at a charter school in Pennsylvania where she taught Kindergarten and 6th grade, then 4th-5th grade for three years. Miss West was recently certified in Middle School English for grades 5-9. In her free time she enjoys snorkeling, riding her Vespa and rooting on her favorite team the Philadelphia Phillies. She is excited to get to teach at GSOTA and loves exposing students to various literature and novels.
